What does an Associate Therapist do: roles and responsibilities

Here are some of the responsibilities of an Associate Therapist at DBH: 

Clinical Documentation and Safety

  • Ensures timely completion of clinical documentation throughout the course of treatment, prioritizing accuracy and compliance.
  • Assesses patients for suicidality and potential danger to self or others, maintaining a vigilant focus on patient safety.

Therapeutic Relationship Building

  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic rapport with patients and their families or loved ones, fostering trust and collaboration in the treatment process.

Admission and Treatment Planning

  • Facilitates admission assessments and the admission process for new patients with professionalism and warmth, ensuring a smooth transition into care.
  • Actively participates in clinical outreach and program tours, contributing to the ongoing growth and development of DBH.

Case Management and Treatment Delivery

  • Manages a caseload of patients in Residential Treatment Care (RTC) and Outpatient (OP) settings, providing individual and family therapy sessions aligned with patients' level of care.
  • Conducts psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups, facilitating multi-family groups and family programs to support holistic treatment approaches.

Utilization Review and Communication

  • Provides utilization reviews to insurance companies, advocating for necessary treatment authorizations and continuing stay approvals.
  • Maintains accessibility to family members and loved ones, promptly responding to calls and emails within specified timeframes.

Discharge Planning and Crisis Management

  • Initiates discharge planning on the day of admission, ensuring comprehensive transition plans and coping resources are in place for patients.
  • Effectively manages crises in sessions and the milieu, providing support to milieu staff and collaborating with the treatment team to uphold clinical quality standards.

Qualifications and requirements for an Associate Therapist job 

To qualify for this role, you’ll need to meet the below requirements. However, to provide truly innovative care, we need to have a diverse team around us. 

That’s why Discovery Behavioral Health is committed to creating an inclusive environment. If you find yourself meeting some but not all the above, we’d be happy to consider your application.

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field
  • Completion of state requirements to conduct therapeutic interventions
  • Operates under supervision and is not licensed
  • Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire
  • Obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire
  • Must possess a current driver’s license and be in good standing
