What are the roles and responsibilities of a Clinical Manager? 

The Clinical Manager at DBH operates within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, guided by the principles of the Discovery Clinical Model. 

Their responsibilities encompass a spectrum of tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.


Clinical documentation and communication

  • Ensures clinical documentation is completed timely throughout the course of treatment.
  • Participates in weekly treatment team meetings and communicates weekly treatment goals with all team members.

Therapeutic relationship and case management

  • Establishes therapeutic rapport with patients and families/loved ones.
  • Facilitates admission assessments and the admission process for new patients with professionalism, courtesy, and a welcoming attitude.
  • Understands role in providing expeditious access to care for individuals seeking services.

Patient engagement and therapy sessions

  • Therapy sessions weekly for patients, including family/support system sessions aligned with the patients’ level of care.
  • Facilitates process-orientated and psychoeducation groups one to two times, daily in RTC and 2-4 times daily in OP.

Crisis management and collaborative care

  • Effectively manages crises in sessions and the milieu.
  • Works collaboratively with the entire treatment team and milieu staff to always ensure the highest level of clinical quality.

  • Effective communication, both with patients and fellow team members, forms the bedrock of successful clinical management. 
  • The ability to establish rapport, manage crises, and collaborate seamlessly with the treatment team and milieu staff ensures the highest level of clinical quality. 
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation, crisis intervention, and therapeutic techniques is essential for driving positive outcomes and fostering a supportive treatment environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills are essential, including the ability to effectively lead and motivate teams, delegate tasks, and resolve conflicts.
  • Comfort and proficiency with healthcare technology systems, electronic health records (EHR), and other software used in clinical settings.

How to become a Clinical Manager 

Embarking on a career as a Clinical Manager at DBH requires a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field, along with completion of state requirements and licensure to conduct therapeutic interventions. 

Additionally, experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a leadership or managerial role is required. This typically includes several years of direct clinical experience, as well as experience supervising staff and managing programs or departments.
